Review of My Barbara La Marr Performance at Hollywood Heritage Museum

Saturday, April 05, 2025

On March 23, I had the honor of presenting a program on silent screen siren Barbara La Marr at the Hollywood Heritage Museum, Hollywood's oldest surviving motion picture studio. The museum was packed, the program received wonderful feedback, and I have been invited back to present an encore program for Women's History Month (March) next year.

I'm deeply appreciative of Hollywood Heritage Museum Director Angie Aisbet Schnieder's review of my program:

Sherri Snyder delivered a truly mesmerizing performance in her one-woman show as silent film star Barbara La Marr. With captivating flair and deep emotional nuance, Snyder didn't just portray La Marr—she became her. From the moment she stepped on stage, it felt as if Barbara herself had stepped out of the past and into the present. Her performance was both flamboyant and heartfelt, perfectly capturing the complexity and magnetism of La Marr's spirit. It wasn't mere imitation—Sherri channeled the very soul of Barbara La Marr, offering audiences a rare window into the life of a fascinating woman who has too often been forgotten by history.

Following the theatrical reenactment, Snyder gave an engaging and deeply researched presentation on La Marr's life and legacy.

Audience members—both longtime admirers and those learning about La Marr for the first time—were captivated throughout. The show took place at the Hollywood Heritage Museum, and many visitors who had originally come for the exhibits stayed for the performance, drawn in by Sherri's commanding presence and storytelling. The praise from attendees was unanimous. This was more than a historical reenactment—it was a resurrection. Sherri Snyder not only honored Barbara La Marr's legacy, she breathed new life into it.
